Water Capping Project
Lapu Lapu City /November 2009 ?RC Central Mactan Develops another three wells completing 23 within 6 months time in Lapu Lapu City water projects continue through Simplified Grants of Rotary District 3860 and various donations from Rotary Clubs all over the world.
Developing a Community Service through District Simplified Grants (DSG) project is a great way to further Rotary?s Avenue of Community Service. A DSG project is created when Rotary clubs from request their district to support one of their communities. This collaboration helps Rotary clubs undertake more ambitious projects that improve lives while fostering local fellowship and understanding. In addition to providing volunteers, clubs can support Barangay projects by offering financial assistance, donating goods, or becoming a partner in Humanitarian projects.
Rotary International and Rotary Club of Central Mactan (RCCM) have launched a collaborative effort to implement water, sanitation, and hygiene projects in the developing Community Service Projects in Barangays of Lapu Lapu City.
Rotary Club of Central Mactan has demonstrated the ability to carry out effective water and sanitation projects. The existing wells were capped with a steel reinforced concrete lid.
An artesian pump placed on the side providing easy access to clean water; The lid provides safety and prevents debris from entering the well. Small children are no longer at risk and the open well can no longer be a breeding ground for potential dengue.
Twenty Three (23) new wells have been provided as of February 2010 benefitting more than 400 families.
Global issues such as literacy, hunger, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and access to clean water affect us all. Rotarians understand this, and with over 32,000 Rotary clubs worldwide, Rotarians are leading the way in their communities to find solutions to global concerns.
